Task was defined as finish setting up a Mac Mini. A number of issues were discovered:
- Screen would at times stop displaying
- Install screen reported “Unable to install, OSInstall.mpkg missing or damaged”
Further investigation discovered that Mac was switching the active display port to a different port. Had to move the VGA adapter between the two ports as necessary to find the currently active port.
The install error was an issue with Mac OS High Sierra that has been reported by thousands of users. I tried a number of recommended solutions until finally I had success. The final solution was to boot in recovery mode ( <command>r) and select “Reinstall Operating System”. This worked. Once completed, I was able to log in and update the apps that needed updating at that point (4) and there was another OS update to apply.
With the system now working, I enabled AFS file sharing on both the old and new Mac Minis. I had to turn off the firewall on the old Mac Mini to get this to work.
I installed Chrome, Acrobat Reader, and LibreOffice.
