Appointment was to determine why Nat’s PC wasn’t showing up on the scan-to-PC list. Upon arrival I discovered that everything was down due to an earlier power outage. The NAS is configured to not auto-power-on after an outage because power bouncing is very bad. Turns out the APC UPS (1000) battery only ran for 7 minutes which was not long enough to survive the outage.
I rebooted the NAS and it repaired itself and came up fine.
Nat’s PC thought it was on a public network. Changed that to work network. Still no joy. Opened the Canon scan app and saw that the printer was not selected as being allowed to scan. That fixed things.
Next on the list was to determine why the downstairs “frontdesk” PC wasn’t on the scan-to list. Logged in as office and couldn’t find any issues. Went back upstairs and it was now visible. The scan software probably requires the office user to be logged in before it will show up.
Recommended purchase of a new UPS for the NAS which was purchased. Chicky was also asking about adding a second LCD to front corner PC (#2). That PC doesn’t have a built-in second video so I recommended a StarTech USB adapter from Staples. Chicky is also getting an Acer LCD (1920×1080). When this equipment arrives next week (Wed 4/11) I’ll visit (Thu 4/12) first thing to set this up. I will also bring bulk CAT6 and tools so I can create a longer cable for the corner PC so it can be moved closer to the door.
