Ed and I met to discuss the plans for the video network. We both now understand more about how the network is supposed to work. Talking things through I was able to update my diagrams to match the intended FD layout as well as matching the design to the original quote. The diagram sent by GovConnection had more equipment than is on the quote (an extra 510 unit). I discovered that the maximum HDMI distance for 4K transmission is only 15′. This resulted in a decision to move the 840 into the Training Room.
We also discussed whether it made sense to stick with the commercial “dumb” TVs or look at getting consumer “smart” TVs that would have multiple physical inputs and the ability to stream Internet content directly. Ed will be asking for pricing/options.
One thing we talked about was reducing the total cost by removing a 510 unit from the Meeting Room. If a smart TV was in that room, direct connections to the TV could be made. If content needed to be shared with other TVs, a wireless video connection to the 510 in the Training Room should work.
I’ve updated my video network diagrams per this meeting and will send a new copy to Ed Mical for review.
