I received a call from Len asking me to investigate networking issues they were having. The network was very slow today. They were also having problems with their equipment joining the networks at Parker Web and Sugar River Bank.
The networking issue turned out to be caused by David’s laptop downloading lots of data throughout the day. The most likely reason for this is a recent OS-X update. The connection at Shelter Kit is only a DSL connection and is therefor limited in bandwidth. A recommendation is to consider upgrading to TDS Fiber service. Pricing from 2016 which may be out of date at this point, had service speeds of 15M/2M @ $64/mo, 25M/10M @ $79/mo, and 50M/20M @ $109/mo. There are higher speeds available as well.
To resolve the connection to other networks issue, I removed the saved network connection information from the computers.
I was also asked about a guest WiFi network. When I originally set up the network, I didn’t know how to configure a guest network. I’ve since learned how and set this up while I was there.
We discussed the fact that there area a lot of nearby networks. I’ve attached a report showing the networks that have been seen by the hardware. One interesting thing to note is the “AllenChevy” network. This points out that cars often have their own networks which come and go and influence network congestion.
