I updated Windows on all but John’s PC. I updated Firefox, Chrome, Acrobat, and TrendMicro on all PCs as needed.
I verified memory sizing on all PCs in anticipation of upgrading to Win 10. My recommendation is that any Win 10 PC should have at least 8GB.
- Lenovo1: POS Street, 4G, 9/21/14, no UPS
- Lenovo2: POS Parking Lot, 4G, 9/21/14, APC 650 but not in use. I connected this and installed the APC Powerchute software. I disabled the audible alerts.
- HP: Main Office, 8G, 3/28/16, UPS. This PC was taking a very long time to update. I eventually left with it still working on 4 of 7 updates.
- Lenovo-201605: Becky Office PC, 5/23/16, UPS
- Becky-HP7: POSIM Server, unknown purchase date, UPS
- Lenovo-201610: Jo Ellen, 9/30/16, UPS. This PC was hung up in some weird state. I couldn’t get logged in. I rebooted and it was happy again. The Carbonite backup was in recovery mode which was not right. I changed it to be backing up.
- Lenovo3-2014, 4G, 10/15/14, UPS.
- John-PC, 6GB, unknown purchase date, no UPS/not required. I would not bother updating this. Better to replace it.
Even thought some of the Lenovo’s are getting old (4 years now), I think they would upgrade to Win10 just fine with the addition of another 4G each. Memory looks like it would be around $60 each. I’d have to do more research to identify the specific memory module needed.
All PCs are Win 7 currently. They will need to be Win 10 by April 2020. It is important to verify with POSIM that their software will run on Win 10 and whether or not a specific version of Win 10 is required. It would also be good to know if Win 7 clients can be used with a Win 10 server and vice versa.
