TA Laptop shutdown during use

Jim Bingham called to report that his laptop shutdown while he was visiting a website. He attempted to restart it but all it did was flash a message and turn back off. He was not able to read the message.

I picked up the laptop to investigate. The power adapter was not left with the laptop so I had to use one I had at home. I discovered that the issue was the battery was fully drained. I was able to charge the battery with my adapter. I changed the configuration of the power button to do a shutdown instead of sleep. There are a number of reports online that the Lenovo’s have an issue if the battery drains fully while in sleep mode. While this wasn’t the case here since it was in use at the time it died, I feel it’s a good idea.

Need to check Jim’s power adapter to see if it’s working. Obtaining a spare power adapter would be a good idea. Cost from Lenovo is $30.
