Received a call from Town Clerk office about a possible virus infection on the DMV PC. The description was that when running a report, they received an empty popup and error indicating that a necessary program module was missing. This would typically indicate that a virus has moved some things around.
I checked that Norton was running (it was) and ran a scan (no issues). I checked Windows Update and found 2 updates stuck: one for Windows (v1803) and one for Adobe Flash. I got the Flash update to install (though I can’t find any indication that Flash is in fact installed, so maybe this was just a safety check). I rebooted the PC and the Windows Update started to download and install.
The vendor was called who logged in remotely to check things and couldn’t find anything wrong at that time. While I have no answer as to what happened, perhaps the stuck Windows update was the issue.
